Winona Barton-Ballentine is a photographic artist based in the Hudson Valley, where she has been capturing people and places since 2014.
She earned both a BA and an MFA in photography from Bard College. Beyond collaborating with artists to design books and curate exhibitions, she currently runs Shelter Upstate, a home and lifestyle photography business in the Catskills that provides creative direction, styling, and photography services to editorial, design, architectural, and real estate clients throughout the Hudson Valley and New York City regions.
Her clients include Architectural Digest, Dwell, Martha Stewart Living, Luxe Magazine, New York Times, Urban Outfitters, Domino, Nylon Magazine, Gather Journal, Freunde von Freunden, Dazed and Confused, Wilder Quarterly, Ovenly Bakery, Chronogram Magazine, Upstate House, Hudson Valley Mag, Valley Mag, and The Mountains Magazine. Before settling in the Hudson Valley, she lived in New York City, where she taught photography and design, produced and edited photo shoots, and managed a non-profit lens-based gallery.
