Tivoli Merchants + Artists announces its inaugural FIRST FRIDAYS series in the spirit of welcoming guests and visitors to its bustling village.

This community-driven event puts a spotlight on the celebrated shops, specialty stores, restaurants and arts attractions that call Tivoli home.

Starting this May and continue throughout the summer and early fall on the first Friday of each month.

The open-house feel encourages visitors and neighbors to wander and stroll through Tivoli and enjoy specials, promotions and discounts - offering unique ways to meet local businesses, artisans and the community, and experience Tivoli’s eclectic, artsy personality.

Weird Specialty Studio is delighted to present it’s Summer Solstice 2024 show with contemporary painter Laura Naples based in Cleveland, OH and multidisciplinary artist John Born of Brooklyn NY.

The theme for the opening exhibition will be born out of collaborative and inspired conversations with each artist. More soon as the co-creative exercise is fully realized.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Laura Naples IS AN ARTIST BASED IN Clevland, ohio.

Laura Naples’s gestural works in thin acrylic washes probe the space between dissonance and harmony. Laura’s selective application of color offers further investigation in opposition, examining dark and light, spectral tone and monochrome.

Poured marks punctuate graceful linear forms that are by turns deliberate and raw, patterned and variable. Intentional placement suggests a rhythm and offers the viewer a challenge to see connections.

john born IS AN ARTISTS BASED IN brooklyn, new york city.

John Born started Humble Matter in 2014 after escaping from the world of advertising—thanks to his amazing wife. Not a New York native, but definitely a transplant who’s taken hold, John has lived in Brooklyn since moving to New York in 1993.

Humble Matter is based out of Wedge Ceramics, a membership studio and wonderful community of ceramicists located on the reassuringly rough-and-tumble border between Clinton Hill and the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Carrie Crawford Is the creator of ‘Mineral Workshop’, her art and textile design studio located in Fairfax, CA.

Mineral Workshop came from both literal homage to my materials, earth elements, and a nod toward the central practice of experimentation that is working with dye and fiber. She is drawn to process - earth elements and plant dyes all taking a good deal of work and care to coax the color to emerge.

Loving the texture of linen, visible weave construction, and the way dye sinks into the fiber and becomes part of the cloth. Working with indigo has been transformative for her creativity–as she believes she is in a true partnership with her materials, as they different compositions and require daily attention. Just as our consciousness does.

Steph Trowbridge IS AN ARTIST BASED IN Oaklyn, New Jersey

Woodworker and ceramist Steph Trowbridge creates household items that combine style and utility, from mugs to serveware.

Steph takes functional tools to the next level by transforming them into statement-making pieces that you’ll want to show off in your home.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Rachel Ehlin-Smith IS THE artist Behind ‘Mr Blue Sky’, HER ART AND TEXTILE DESIGN STUDIO is LOCATED IN San Diego, CA.

Rachel’s deep connection to the natural world greatly influences her artistic process. The result is a collection of captivating woven sculptures.

Using a combination of silk, cotton, horse tail, alpaca, locally foraged plants, handmade natural dyes and crystalized applications. Each piece is first meticulously woven on a floor loom, showcasing the craftsmanship & attention to fine detail. Inspired by the romantic and ethereal, my artwork evokes a sense of beauty & serenity.

BEHIND MALKA DINA is artist/designer Elana Noy of Brooklyn, ny.

Elana handcrafts her designs in her studio. Elana created MALKA DINA to be a lifestyle brand with an interdisciplinary vision that seeks to create environments where her aesthetic is evident in anything she decides to make. From metal smithing to handmade pottery to handwoven textiles, Elana almost solely utilizes techniques that were invented hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago.

As she approaches these mediums and means of production, she looks for unexplored territory in technical approach and formal innovation. Her objective is to continue experimenting with these mediums to create objects unlike anything that has been seen before.
